Measuring Mat Wells/Recesses
A mat well (or recess) is usually built after the floor has been laid, which often produces corners that are not perfect right angles and sides of different lengths. As a result,it is very important to measure all sides of a mat well individually before ordering a mat. If the measurement is incorrect by a few centimeters on one side, there will be a gap between the mat and the edge – creating an uneven appearance and trip hazard.
Measure twice and cut once
If you have bought a mat to cover a mat well or recess, make sure that you take the measurements and check them at least twice before you cut the mat. You can easily re-measure but you cannot re-cut a mat if it has the wrong angle or is too small.
Filling in the mat well or recess
Mat wells are often made far too small to allow the mat to do its job – taking dirt and moisture off shoes. The best solution is to fill in the mat well and then cover with the proper size and type of mat required. The heavy duty edging on mats ensures that the mat lays flat on the floor and will not break up. There is no longer a need to have a mat well because of the construction available on the edges.
